Select the right switching material for your home together

Selecting switchgear for a complete home is something you only have to think about once, but which you will enjoy for years to come. By creating structure in advance, you prevent ambiguity during construction or renovation and you ensure a logical and clear end result.

Bee Livolo we notice that customers who think carefully about their home in advance make choices faster, require fewer adjustments and are ultimately more satisfied with the end result.

Create an overview for yourself

Good preparation is especially pleasant for you because you are forced to think about how you actually use the spaces. Where do you come in? Which lighting do you want to control from which location? Do you want to dim, switch or apply smart controls?

By recording this per room, an overview is created. You immediately see what choices you make and prevent you from thinking later: “Wouldn't it have been better if we had placed an extra switch here?”

In addition, this overview will help you make conscious choices in appearance. Consider the color of the cover frames, the number of cover frames per wall and the combination of switches and sockets. Everything will soon form one whole in the home, instead of separate decisions per room.

Clarity for the installer

For the installer, a well-prepared overview is perhaps the biggest advantage. Instead of assumptions or last-minute questions, the installer knows in advance exactly what is needed.

By indicating per room:

  • how many built-in boxes there will be
  • where they are placed
  • and which functions will ultimately be added

the installer can immediately install the correct wiring and make the correct preparations. This prevents extra work, delays and unnecessary adjustments during or after installation.

A clear plan ensures that the installer can work more efficiently and that the installation is carried out correctly the first time.

Thinking along and advice from us

For us, an overview per room is the ideal basis for thinking along with you. Based on your wishes, we can check whether everything is logically structured, whether combinations are technically correct and whether smart improvements are possible.

For example, we sometimes see that a double switch is more practical than two single switches, or that a different layout of cover frames looks calmer on the wall. By monitoring early in the process, we can provide this kind of advice before ordering or installing.

Based on your overview, we then create a complete overview, fully tailored to your home.

Working with an overview per room

To ensure that the process runs smoothly, we recommend making a brief overview per room. That doesn't have to be complicated. A simple summary is sufficient.

For example:

Space: Living room
Quantity: Flush-mounted boxes: 3
Glass plate color: White

Flush-mounted box 1: On/off switch for dining table lamp
Flush-mounted box 2: Dimmer switch for kitchen spotlights
Flush-mounted box 3: Dimmer switch - smart home for living room spotlights

By doing this per room, you know exactly what goes where and we can see exactly which cover frame and modules are needed.

It is also important to specify not only which switches and sockets you want, but also how they are controlled. If lighting switches on and off from multiple places, it is important that this is indicated as a changeover.

If you would like to know more about what a changeover switch is and when to use it, we would like to refer you to our detailed explanation about this in the separate blog about changeover switches.

*One flush-mounted box is the round hole in the wall where the electrical wiring comes together. Switches, dimmers or sockets are mounted in this box. The flush-mounted box forms the basis of the switching material and determines where and how it is placed on the wall.

One preparation, a smooth process

Good preparation makes the entire process clear and pleasant. You have a clear idea of what you want in advance, which makes choices during the process easier. The installer knows exactly what he needs to install and prepare, and we can provide you with targeted advice and think along with you.

This not only works more efficiently for everyone involved, but it also feels a lot calmer for you. Everything is thought through and coordinated, without last-minute decisions or uncertainty. The result is a home in which the switching material not only looks beautiful, but is also logically laid out and works pleasantly in daily use.

New construction or renovation requires a different approach

Whether you are building a new home or renovating an existing home, good preparation is always important. The approach may differ per situation, but the basic principle remains that you make it clear in advance what you want.

With new construction you often still have a lot of freedom. This is a good time to think about where you enter each room, where the light should come and from which places you want to operate it. Because the installer still has to install everything, flush-mounted boxes and wiring can be placed exactly as you envision. This prevents additional work later and ensures a neat finish.

During a renovation, existing flush-mounted boxes and wiring are usually used. This is precisely when a clear overview helps to see what can be reused and where adjustments are needed. By recording in advance what you want per room, it quickly becomes clear whether the current situation is suitable or whether something needs to be changed.

In both cases, clear preparation ensures peace of mind during the process and smooth progress of the work.

Practical overview per room so you can easily keep track

To keep things clear, we recommend using the same layout per room. This does not have to be a technical document. A simple list is sufficient, as long as it is clear what you want to apply per location.

For example, you can note per room:

  • which space it concerns
  • how many flush-mounted boxes are present or desired
  • which function each flush-mounted box will have
  • whether you want to use smart switches or dimmers
  • and which color of cover frame you like

By doing this consistently per room, a complete picture of your home will automatically be created. You can share this overview with the installer and with us, so that everyone works from the same information.

Your overview as a basis for thinking along

When you share your overview with us, we translate this into a complete and logical product proposal. We check whether all chosen combinations are technically correct, whether cover frames and modules fit together properly and whether there are options to make the layout even smarter or more practical.

You will then receive a clear overview of all required Livolo products, fully tailored to your home. We also provide advice where it adds value, so that you can be sure that everything is properly coordinated and nothing is forgotten.

Because everything is carefully worked out in advance, you avoid surprises during ordering or installation. This saves time, prevents unnecessary adjustments and ensures pleasant cooperation between you, the installer and us.

Well-prepared living with Livolo

Good preparation may seem like a bit of extra work, but it actually provides a lot of peace of mind. You know exactly what you want, the installer can work efficiently and we can provide you with optimal guidance and advice.

This way you ensure that your Livolo switching material not only looks beautiful, but is also logically applied in every room of your home, now and in the future.

Frequently asked questions about the preparation of switchgear

When is the best time to determine switching material?
The best time to determine switch material is as early as possible in the process, before the installer and plasterer start work. At that time there is still complete freedom in installing flush-mounted boxes and installing wiring.

By including switchgear at an early stage in the interior design, the placement fits logically with furniture, lighting and walking routes. This prevents switches from ending up in awkward places later or from requiring adjustments afterwards.

If the switching material is selected later, the positions have often already been determined and there is less room to optimize. Making choices in advance creates peace in the design and makes the installation smoother for all parties involved.

Is it wise to work per room?
Yes, that works most clearly. By looking at how many flush-mounted boxes are needed per room and what goes into them, you prevent yourself from forgetting something and keep a handle on everything.

Do I also have to specify each socket separately per room?
No, that's not necessary. You can simply name the number of flush-mounted boxes and indicate what will be included. For example, if you have two flush-mounted boxes next to each other with two sockets, you can describe this as one set. For example, if you need a total of twelve of these in the home, you do not have to work this out separately per room or per socket. This keeps it clear and practical.

Where is the best place to place sockets and switches?
For a calm and neat appearance, it is advisable to place sockets low to the ground, for example around 20 cm measured from the center of the flush-mounted box. It is best to only use switches for the light points. This keeps the switches tight and creates a beautiful glass plate without the interruption of a socket. This gives a calm and clear image on the wall.

How do I know how many flush-mounted boxes I need?
You determine the number of flush-mounted boxes by looking per room at where you want to operate lighting and where sockets are needed. Every place where a switch or socket is located requires one flush-mounted box.

If you don't know this exactly yet, that's no problem. You can indicate per location which functions you want to operate there, such as lighting or sockets. We will then look with you and determine how many flush-mounted boxes are needed.

If flush-mounted boxes are already present, for example during a renovation, it is important to note these and pass them on. Existing flush-mounted boxes are a fixed starting point that we must take into account when assembling the switching material.

What is useful to share with the installer in advance?
The complete overview per room is ideal to share with the installer in advance. This clearly indicates where switches and sockets should be placed, how many flush-mounted boxes are needed and which functions are operated at which location. Based on this, the installer can install the correct wiring and prepare everything properly.

By sharing this overview in advance, you prevent confusion during installation. Everyone works from the same starting point and knows exactly what the intention is. This also helps to avoid discussions afterwards. For example, in situations where you had indicated that a lamp in the living room had to be controlled from a certain place, but no switch was placed because this was not clearly coordinated.

A clear overview ensures that your wishes are properly translated into the installation and that the end result corresponds to what you had envisioned in advance. This provides peace of mind during the process and prevents disappointments afterwards.

Do I need to know whether I want to use smart switches?
It is useful to think about this in advance, but with Livolo you do not have to make a final decision immediately. That is one of the big advantages Livolo switchgear.

Whether you choose smart switches (can be operated manually and via app) or for standard switches (manual only), the connection is exactly the same. Both types are connected to the same wiring and require no additional preparation. It makes no difference to the installer and there is no additional work.

This means that you have the choice of smart or not smart even until the last moment before delivery can make. If you are still in doubt, the installer can fully prepare the home and you can decide later which switches you actually want to use.

In addition, we can work with you to determine which rooms are suitable for smart operation and where a standard switch is sufficient. This way you make a conscious choice, without committing yourself at an early stage of the process.

How do I ensure a calm appearance on the wall?
A calm appearance on the wall is created by consciously separating switches and sockets and placing them logically. Electrical outlets are preferably always placed low to the ground. This way they remain functionally present, but are as unobtrusive as possible.

For the light points it is nice to only use switches. This creates a sleek and calm image at eye level with only glass windows, without interruption of sockets. This provides a neat and luxurious appearance.

In spaces such as the living room, this is often chosen one button per flush-mounted box, with several buttons coming together under one larger cover frame. The buttons are not tightly pressed together, but rather have a nice space between them. This ensures peace and a balanced appearance on the wall.

A larger cover frame also fits better with the scale of a room such as the living room. Instead of small plates, one coherent whole is created that looks calm and better shows off the design of the glass switching material.

By making these choices consciously, the wall remains calm, the switches fit in nicely with the interior and the design of the glass switch material is optimally displayed.

Can you help check my overview?
Yes, absolutely. That is exactly the purpose of this preparation. We would be happy to take a full look with you and go through the overview together. We check whether everything is logically structured, whether the chosen layout is correct and whether all rooms fit together well.

During this process, we actively think along with you and provide advice where it adds value. Together we ensure that your overview is complete, clear and well thought out. This provides peace of mind in advance and ensures that the final implementation runs smoothly and meets your wishes.
