Sensereo VS01F wirelessly connectable smoke detector with RF

The Sensereo VS01F is a wirelessly connectable smoke detector with which multiple compatible detectors communicate directly with each other via RF. If one smoke detector detects smoke, the linked detectors in the home can also sound the alarm. This does not require WiFi, app, Smart Home platform or gateway. The VS01F uses photoelectric smoke detection and is certified according to EN 14604. Thanks to the wireless connection, this model is especially suitable for multi-storey homes, bedrooms or rooms where you want to be warned everywhere at the same time. The detector runs entirely on battery power and can be mounted on the ceiling or wall without hard wiring.

Wirelessly connectable smoke detectors for the entire home

A regular stand-alone smoke detector only gives an alarm at the location where smoke is detected. The Sensereo VS01F can communicate directly with other compatible VS01F smoke detectors. When one linked detector detects smoke, the alarm signal is transmitted wirelessly so that the other linked detectors can also warn.

This is especially practical in multi-storey homes or closed bedrooms. For example, if smoke develops downstairs while you are sleeping upstairs, you do not have to rely solely on the sound of the smoke detector on the ground floor. The linked detector above can also give an alarm.

RF link without WiFi or internet

Mutual communication takes place via RF, or radio frequency. The smoke detectors communicate directly with each other and are not dependent on your router, internet connection, smartphone or an external cloud environment for the connection.

This makes the VS01F a good choice if you want wirelessly linked smoke detectors, but do not need a Smart Home system. Even if the WiFi fails, the direct RF link between compatible detectors continues to function.

All linked smoke detectors can warn simultaneously

The most important advantage of a connectable smoke detector is that an alarm is not limited to one room. As soon as a detector detects smoke, it sends an RF signal to the other linked detectors. As a result, a warning can be heard throughout the entire home.

This makes wirelessly linked smoke detectors particularly suitable for homes with multiple floors, long corridors, bedrooms away from the living room or other situations where one local alarm may be less audible.

Photoelectric smoke detection

The Sensereo VS01F uses a photoelectric, also called optical, smoke sensor. This technique detects smoke particles in the measuring chamber using light. When smoke particles scatter light, the sensor can recognize this and activate the local smoke alarm.

Photoelectric smoke detection is widely used in smoke detectors for homes. The VS01F combines this local detection with the option to directly transmit an alarm wirelessly to other linked detectors.

EN 14604 certified smoke detector

The Sensereo VS01F is certified according to EN 14604. This European standard contains requirements for smoke detectors that are used in homes.

The certification relates to the function as a smoke detector. The wireless RF link is an additional feature that allows multiple compatible detectors to jointly alert when one detector detects smoke.

No Matter, Thread or Smart Home required

The VS01F is deliberately constructed differently from the Sensereo MS-1 and MSC-1. This model does not use Matter over Thread and will not be added to Apple Home, Home Assistant, Homey, SmartThings or Google Home.

There is also no need for a Thread Border Router. The power of the VS01F lies in the direct connection between the smoke detectors themselves. This makes the system simple and independent of a Smart Home platform.

Do not connect to the Livolo Matter Gateway

The Sensereo VS01F cannot be connected to the Livolo Matter Gateway. The Livolo Matter Gateway is intended to make Livolo EC products available within compatible Matter platforms. The VS01F, on the other hand, uses a direct RF connection between compatible smoke detectors.

If you want a Sensereo smoke detector that can become part of a Matter platform and can, for example, start Smart Home automations, then the MS-1 or MSC-1 are intended for that purpose. If you mainly want smoke detectors to transmit alarms directly to each other without an app or hub, then the VS01F is the suitable version.

VS01F and Matter smoke detectors work separately

The VS01F can be placed next to Matter smoke detectors in the same home, but the two systems are not directly linked. A VS01F reports alarms to compatible RF detectors within its own linked group. An MS-1 or MSC-1 uses Matter over Thread to communicate with a compatible Smart Home platform.

If you want multiple detectors that immediately sound their siren together in the event of a smoke alarm, it is important that you use compatible RF versions and link them as one group.

Extensive wireless range between the detectors

Sensereo lists a maximum RF range of approximately 250 meters in open space for the VS01F. This is a theoretical distance without walls, floors or other obstacles between the detectors.

The practical range will be lower in a home. Concrete, reinforced floors, metal, thick walls and the location of the detectors can affect the radio signal. Therefore, always test after installation whether all linked smoke detectors respond correctly to each other.

Suitable for existing homes and renovations

Because no connecting cable is required between the smoke detectors, the VS01F can easily be used in existing homes. No additional cables need to be run between floors or rooms for the detectors to communicate with each other.

This makes wirelessly linked RF smoke detectors also interesting for renovations, apartments and homes in which you want to replace existing smoke detectors without installing new wiring.

Installation without hard wiring

The Sensereo VS01F runs on battery and does not require a permanent 230V connection. The smoke detector is attached to a suitable position on the ceiling or wall with the mounting facility.

Correct placement is important for good smoke detection. Therefore, always follow the current Sensereo manual for mounting distances and do not place the detector directly next to ventilation openings or in locations where steam, dust or cooking fumes can cause unnecessary alarms.

Connect and test smoke detectors

Compatible VS01F smoke detectors can communicate with each other as a group via RF. After installation, it is important to test the connection and check whether the other detectors respond when the test function is used.

Perform this check again when you add a detector, change the location of a smoke detector, or when the home is modified in such a way that walls, doors or other structures could affect the wireless range.

Testing and maintenance

Test smoke detectors regularly with the intended test function and keep the detector openings free of dust and dirt. A properly functioning connection is just as important as the smoke detection itself, because all connected detectors must be able to receive the alarm signal correctly.

Therefore, during a test, not only check the detector on which you start the test, but also whether the linked smoke detectors elsewhere in the home respond. Always follow the current Sensereo instructions for testing, cleaning, installation and replacement.
